More About Us
Folkestone and District Mind was registered as a charity in May 1988. Our charity is affiliated to National Mind but is run independently and has its own constitution and board of Trustees. We aim to improve the quality of life of Shepway residents experiencing mental distress. Our organisation has strong values and everyone working for us is familiar with our vision and objectives. Our services are provided by 15 part time staff plus many volunteers. Testimony to the commitment of staff and quality of services is our attainment of the Level A standard of National Mind Quality Assurance.
We have approximately 150 members who regularly use our community services but many more people contact us seeking advice and information. Our members come from varied backgrounds and we regularly consult with them in developing services which are responsive to their needs and aspirations.
We currently operate this Shepway Mental Health Community Service under a Service Agency Agreement with Kent County Council ( KCC ). KCC meet the basic annual costs incurred in the day to day running of the Mind Resource Centre which also serves as our administrative headquarters. The charity meets the cost of any extra services provided at the Centre e.g. counselling, hairdressing, any out-of-centre activities such as day trips, gym sessions, horse riding & driving, conservation projects and all activities offered as a part of our Wellbeing Programme. We rely upon grants, donations, fundraising and volunteers to support these services.
We encourage and support participation and service planning by volunteers and members.
