We need to take care of our mental health just as we would our physical health and, although we like to raise awareness every day of the year in one way or another, Thursday 10th October 2019 was a great day to get people talking and supporting one another for World Mental Health Day.

Folkestone & District Mind celebrated the day by hosting awareness events and talks. FDM staff were present in Bouverie Place with an awareness stand, lots of information about mental health in general and about the charity. It was fantastic to chat with the public, share information about what we do and provide info leaflets on specific issues. Thankfully the autumnal sunshine was out which made for a bustling town centre with many people stopping by for a chat. We had a similar activity taking place at The Charlton Centre’s Live Well Hub in Dover and gave awareness talks at The Rotary Club of Dover and Dungeness Power Station.

CEO Bernie attended The Rotary Club of Dover’s lunchtime meeting at the Leaf Hotel to speak about mental health in general, FDM’s current services, FDM’s aspirations for South Kent, improving wellbeing and future projects. Bernie thanked the Rotary Club for the support given thus far and took questions from the floor.

Director of Communications Adam was invited to deliver awareness talks to staff members at Dungeness Power Station about the charity’s services and mental health.

Thanks to everyone for supporting our activities on World Mental Health Day.
