Folkestone and District Mind

Folkestone and District Mind was registered as a charity in May 1988. Our charity is affiliated to National Mind but is run independently and has its own constitution and board of Trustees. We aim to improve the quality of life of Shepway residents experiencing mental distress. Our organisation has strong values and everyone working for us is familiar with our vision and objectives. Our services are provided by 15 part-time staff plus many volunteers. Testimony to the commitment of staff and quality of services is our attainment of National Mind’s Quality Mark.

Mission

Folkestone & District Mind is here to promote better mental health and wellbeing across Shepway and surrounding areas. To achieve this, we will help and support people to build resilience and make the best choices to improve and sustain their wellbeing. We are guided by the principle however that a person’s care is ultimately their own responsibility.

Our Six Commitments

  • Delivering high quality services which are focused on what works, not what doesn’t
  • Doing our best to help people cope with the challenges of mental distress by identifying the right tools to improve their own wellbeing
  • Helping people to recognise that they can make positive changes at any point in their lifetime
  • Supporting people as people – appreciating that there are many ways to wellbeing
  • Offering support that is mindful and complementary to/or an alternative to medication.
  • Developing better support for people who are at risk of self-harm or suicide
The charity’s objects are to promote the preservation and the safeguarding of mental health and the relief of persons suffering from mental health disorders.
